AIDS Project Los Angeles (as APLA Health was then known) opened its doors in 1983. In those early days of the AIDS epidemic, APLA worked to educate the community, influence public policy to protect the rights of people impacted by AIDS, and visit patients at their hospital beds. Today, they have continued the fight against HIV by providing free and low-cost health care services to the entire LGBTQ community and HIV support services that help Los Angeles thrive. Healthier people mean healthier communities and a healthier country. It means an end to AIDS. It means battling successfully against poverty, stigma, and discrimination.
